Asset Management has been considered a best practice for many years now. Practicing Asset Management means that a utility is thinking about the most cost-effective way to meet its mission goals while planning for the long-term.

Join APWA’s MPAC committee to hear from Alex Chen, Drinking Water Director for Seattle Public Utilities, as he discusses the benefits of asset management and shares SPU’s simple framework that other utilities can adopt quickly. Topics covered include inventorying assets; developing levels of service; analyzing criticality of assets; analyzing the minimum life cycle cost; and developing a long-term funding plan. Specific examples will be cited to help illustrate the common-sense approach to managing water system assets.

This presentation will help operators, engineers, and managers to manage (maintain and renew) their system’s facilities in a cost-effective manner while meeting mission goals (such protecting public health, delivering reliable service to customers) for the long-term.
