Short Description: The City of Port Townsend is recruiting to fill one vacancy in our Public Works Department at either the Director or Deputy Director level, depending on qualifications. Leading an engineering department in the small community of Port Townsend provides a great opportunity to use true engineering ingenuity, especially as it relates to non-motorized transportation, environmental sustainability, and infrastructure planning.

Public Works Director salary range: $147,538-182,947
Minimum requirements: Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Civil, Mechanical, or Environmental Engineering or a related field. Minimum of seven years of professional level public works experience with at least three years of supervisory and managerial responsibilities including working knowledge of public works administration, wastewater, water, transportation and maintenance operations in a municipal agency. An extensive combination of directly relevant experience and training may substitute for formal education. Valid Washington Driver’s License and maintain a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
Deputy Public Works Director/City Engineer salary range: $133,821-165,938
Minimum requirements: Licensed engineer in the State of Washington or the ability to obtain a license within 6 months of hire. Graduation from college with a degree in civil engineering or closely related field. A minimum of 6 years of experience as a practicing licensed engineer, 4 years of which is in a management role. Two years of experience working in a municipal engineering environment. Valid Washington State Driver’s license and ability to maintain a driving record acceptable to the City’s insurance carrier.
