Recognize Public Works on National First Responders Day – October 28

While we often think of police, fire, and EMTs, Public Works professionals are also on the front lines when disaster strikes.  From clearing snow-covered roads to repairing water main breaks, managing storm response, and restoring vital infrastructure, they are essential to community safety and recovery. On October 28, join us in celebrating National First Responders Day by recognizing the critical, behind-the-scenes work of Public Works teams. Now is a great time to start planning how your agency, city, or organization will show appreciation.

2 Ways to Recognize the Day

  1. Use APWA Nationals Toolkit to spread the message online.
  2. Submit your 1-minute video by October 23 recognizing your public works first responders. Highlight your crews, tell a quick story, or simply say thanks — we’ll compile and share the videos to celebrate their service statewide.
